SF Latinx Democratic Club Statement on
Shotwell Neighbors Lawsuit against City

The San Francisco Latinx Democratic Club condemns the frivolous lawsuit over prostitution submitted by the wealthy neighbors of Shotwell, funded and organized by Together SF. This lawsuit does nothing to address the root systemic issues of prostitution in the Mission, which have existed since the 1900s.

Additionally, the San Francisco Latinx Democratic Club condemns the shadow effort by TogetherSF to fund this lawsuit with notorious landlords who have shady histories of tenant harassment and illegal evictions. TogetherSF radicalizing right wingers in our communities to limit hours of access to public resources like Jose Coronado park is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Additionally, City leadership need to stop blocking off streets in the Mission, hoping that prostitution will magically vanish by disrupting traffic patterns. Newsflash: it won’t, unless resources are provided to sex workers and enforcement is stepped up on those perpetuating these harms on vulnerable sex workers. Candidates running for office and elected officials need to stop using Latino neighborhoods as scapegoats and as a political wedge issue, and instead deliver real solutions to these issues.
