STATEMENT FROM THE WOMEN OF SFLDC EXECUTIVE BOARD ON SOLIDARITY, TRUTH, AND HEALING

STATEMENT FROM THE WOMEN OF SFLDC EXECUTIVE BOARD ON SOLIDARITY, TRUTH, AND HEALING

Wednesday, March 18, 2026

The San Francisco Latino Democratic Club (SFLDC) expresses our most profound
sadness and heavy-hearted solidarity regarding the revelations of the pain Dolores
Huerta has carried for decades. To our madrina, Dolores, and to the many women who
have lived in the shadows of this history: we see you and hold space for your healing.

Centering Survivors with Community and Confronting the Past

We must speak the truth, even when it is agonizing. The allegations regarding sexual
abuse perpetrated by Cesar Chavez—including the abuse of women and minors—are
devastating. For too long, society has struggled to reconcile the brilliance of our icons. It
causes harm to the individuals we support and to our mutual cause but we will not
waiver.

Today, we center the survivors and align with our community. Sexual violence is an
affront to the dignity and "La Causa" that we fight for every day. We recognize that
public discussions of this nature can retraumatize those who have suffered in silence. It
is not enough to simply "acknowledge" these facts; we must actively include survivors in
these conversations to ensure our community’s path forward is rooted in genuine
support and restorative justice. We must actively think about this with our actions in
public discourse involving sexual violence and how unseen survivors are affected by it.

Unwavering Solidarity

The SFLDC remains in steadfast solidarity with Dolores Huerta and the United Farm
Workers (UFW). Their work changed the fabric of American labor, and that legacy
belongs to the workers and the women who organized in the fields. We also appreciate
the transparency and gravity of the statement issued by the Cesar Chavez

Foundation. Acknowledging this history is a vital step toward breaking the cycles of
sexual violence.

Our Commitment

The San Francisco Latino Democratic Club is committed to supporting our community
through these difficult challenges. We pledge to:

  • Continue the work to end sexual violence in all its forms.
  • Ensure our political and social spaces are safe for women and vulnerable populations.
  • Uphold accountability as a core value of our organizing work.

We stand with the survivors. You are not alone. We stand with our community.
