As many of you may know, there’s an important election that is not heavily publicized coming up this Sunday, January 8.
Every two years, the CA Democrats elect 7 women and 7 men from each Assembly District in CA as delegates to the state party. Those who are elected will have a chance to vote for the new party chair and other leadership. The race will determine whether the party will become grassroots-focused and innovative or will remain beholden to big money interests.
Delegates elect Party officers, endorse candidates for statewide, legislative and congressional office, attend the annual convention, network with other Democrats, represent your constituency, promote the California Democratic Party agenda, and vote to endorse resolutions and ballot measures.
There are many people we admire and respect running for these positions but unfortunately there are only 7 slots each.
This year members of the Executive Board worked with a coalition of like-minded Democratic Club allies to come up with the Reform Democrat Slates for Assembly Districts 17 & 19. Our hand-picked and vetted candidates will work to fight Trump and the corporate Democrats who allowed him to become president. We believe that the Democratic Party will best defend its values of equal rights and treatment across lines of race, gender identity, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation when it represents the 99%, not the 1%.
The Slates include or recommend LDC Board Members Lila Carrillo, Gabriel Medina and Brigitte Davila as well as LDC Members Wendy Aragon, Xavier Aubuchon-Mendoza, Ian Fregosi and Angeles Roy.
